NHK's public relations comments on Yuko Oshima's graduation announcement

$

0

NHK's public relations gave their comments about Yuko Oshima's announcement of her graduation from AKB48 at the live broadcast of the 64th Kouhaku Uta Gassen on the 31st.

NHK's public relations representative looked surprised and commented, "We at NHK were not informed about this", after AKB48's performance when a reporter asked for comments.

Yuko Oshima suddenly announced her graduation from AKB48 in between songs of their medley.
"This will be my last time performing at the Kouhaku Uta Gassen like this", as they performed AKB's trademark song "Heavy Rotation" with Oshima as the center. Minami Takahashi and Rino Sashihara were in tears during the performance, but Oshima kept smiling throughout the performance. She did seem to have watery eyes during the final pose of the song.

[News flash] It's the end of Oshima

Won't they get banned from NHK for this?

Even Sabu-chan made his announcement beforehand. Who do they think they are?

Don't lie.
There's no way you didn't know about it w

Akimoto: "You really stand out when it's done at the Kouhaku"

This is a lie www
Then how were they able to secure some time to speak in between songs?

>> It's obviously scripted w

There's no way they weren't informed about this.
If they didn't, then there's no way they'd choose an old song like that for their performance.

Oshima haters have suddenly gone up in number because of this.
I guess you reap what you sow.

Something like this should've been within expectations w

If not, then they wouldn't have included it in the recap

NHK's doing as they please with the reception fee that the citizens are paying for

"Oi, oi, oi, oi, we didn't hear about this~!"

NHK knew about this.
They shouldn't have cooperated with the group in making headlines like this.

Including an old song like "Heavy Rotation" in the list, making time to give comments in between songs, and the camera was focusing Yuko Oshima all the time.

There's no way NHK didn't know about this.

Poor Sabu-chan www

They should've really chosen another date for this.
They ruined the stage that was set for their huge senpai in the industry w

"Heavy Rotation" was a 2010 song, and they performed it this year because it's a song with Oshima as the center. This was all planned from the start.

The public relations may not know about it, but the producer does

You guys always say things like "scripted" or "attention-seekers", and I think you're all cute for believing something like this
>> It's the same difference. The only thing in question here is who's at fault: NHK, Akimoto, or Oshima.

A presumptuous woman who just overlapped her own graduation with Saburo Kitajima's graduation.

They misappropriated the program for their own

Don't lie NHK.
You just used that clip in the recap towards the end.

But the cameras all knew where to focus.
Why would they make an obvious lie like this?

NHK just lied again
NHK approved of this
Yuko Oshima's sudden graduation announcement: "I feel so refreshed"

Oshima explained: "There would be MC in between songs this time, and I've been thinking about graduating for quite some time now, so when I thought that this would be my final Kouhaku, I wondered if I could announce it during the MC break".
"I talked this over with Akimoto-sensei right before our actual performance, and Akimoto-sensei talked to an NHK producer, got approval, and I was able to announce it."

>> So NHK knew about it but Sabu-chan didn't, huh
>> Kitajima's side wouldn't have approved of this so NHK decided not to tell them.

That's what we're saying, it's all an act that Akimoto and NHK have agreed on.

There's no way NHK doesn't know about it w

But they even included the graduation announcement in the highlights towards the end.
So I don't think that NHK didn't hear about it.

So on top of approving this graduation announcement, NHK even lied that they didn't hear about it?
That's the worst.

If NHK really weren't aware of this, then there's no way they would have selected "Heavy Rotation".
I was already expecting something like Fortune Cookie where they would force everyone in attendance to dance along which would have led to mixed reactions.
All signs here point to the fact that NHK knew about it.

They were in cahoots with NHK, huh?

So even NHK would lend a helping hand to the AKB business model...

The production staff knew about it, but public relations didn't have a clue, huh

It's all for the sake of higher ratings.

They just included this important announcement from AKB as a surprise.

The director who cried retirement Hayao Miyazaki is ready to come back?

$
0
0

After announcing his retirement during a press conference September of last year, is anime legend Hayao Miyazaki of Studio Ghibli already making plans for a comeback (to no one's surprise).

On a radio broadcast on New Years Eve, long-time colleague of Hayao Miyazaki and former president of Studio Ghibli Toshio Suzuki spoke of the future of Ghibli hinted at Miyazaki's return. If this is true, this marks the 7th retraction of retirement by Miyzaki.

  1. 1986 after Castle in the Sky

  2. 1992 after Porco Rosso

  3. 1997 after Princess Mononoke

  4. 2001 after Spirited Away

  5. 2004 after Howl's Moving Castle

  6. 2008 after Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea

  7. 2013 after The Wind Rises

But is it all just a marketing ploy so they can slap "Miyazaki's last movie" on every Ghibli movie when it comes out? After almost every film he releases it seems as if he plans on retiring only to come back months later. Animation is not an easy task especially at 72 years old, but it seems as if his passion can't keep him away.

No word on his next film, but just under a month ago Film distributor TOHO announced Studio Ghibli's next film will be an adaptation of Joan G. Robinson's English children's novel classic When Marnie Was There (Omoide no Marnie) due this summer. Hiromasa Yonebayashi is returning to direct his second film after 2010's The Secret World of Arrietty.

Thanks for playing! This year I think is gonna be the final year. Participation was the lowest in all four years. There was less than 700 nominations and its just too time consuming for me to do during the New Years.

It was fun! and stuff. Happy New Year.

An angry Namie Amuro and her ex-husband SAM were spotted at the same party

$

Namie Amuro (36), known as an energetic and brilliant performer who is shy around others, attended the party of a close friend at a club in Nishi-Azabu where an incident occurred.

It's reported that there were a lot of regular visitors that day because the party was not private, but a tall man who seemed to be a dancer stood out as he circled around one young lady in the corner of the dance floor. He had long hair and a husky voice, and he was recognised as SAM (51).

"SAM being there seemed to be purely coincidental, but he seemed to be in a very good mood as he circled the young woman." said the staff member, who noted that Amuro was far from happy when she noticed SAM. One of the dancers Namie is close to and who was at the party testified to the same thing.

"Amuro was frowning as she said bluntly, 'What the...fawning over someone like that is disgraceful.' At that time SAM had a lewd smile on his face as the girl smiled back while Amuro watched with a heart-breaking expression on her face. As they moved from the dance floor to one of the sofas and began to drink, he pulled the girl close and began touching a slightly exposed nipple, both looking like they were enjoying it."

The party Amuro was with was sitting in full view of the whole thing and she would glance over there every once in a while and sigh, clearly upset.

"'I really didn't want to see that.' She had said under her breath. But she wasn't jealous. No, the reason was more because her ex-husband was also the father of her child, and was way older than the girl, yet didn't seem to care. It was a surprise to see her so serious and mixed up, as it's not what she's usually like." (Statement from same dancer friend)

For Amuro who is in the spotlight as a songstress and a single mother, SAM's thoughtless stunt must not have been amusing.

Kazuya Kamenashi to star in spy movie “Joker Game”

joker-game-cast

Kazuya Kamenashi (KAT-TUN) is set to star in Yu Irie’s upcoming film Joker Game, playing a genius spy named Kato.

In addition, it’s been announced that Kyoko Fukada will play the American Ambassador’s lover, a mysterious woman named Rin, and Yusuke Iseya will play a man named Colonel Yuuki who takes command of the secret intelligence agency “D Kikan”.

Not to be confused with the 2012 teen survival thriller starring Rie Kitahara, this Joker Game is actually based on the first in a spy story compilation novel by Koji Yanagi with illustrations by Yoshinatsu Mori. In 2009, the novel won the 30th Yoshikawa Eiji Prize for New Writers and the 62nd Mystery Writers of Japan Award. The novel’s two sequels, Double Joker and Paradise Lost, were also popular, having reached a total circulation of over 700,000 copies to date.

The film is set in a fictional international Asian city on the eve of World War II as spies from countries such as Japan, the UK, the Soviet Union, and Germany engage in a “spy game”, using every trick and plot they can think of to gain the upper hand in the secret intelligence battle.

Kamenashi’s character Kato is about to receive a severe punishment for disobeying his superiors when he’s scouted by Yuuki to become a spy for D Kikan. He endures rigorous training and is eventually given his first mission as a secret agent. Kato must infiltrate the multicultural city referred to “Devil’s Metropolis” in order to take a critical “black notebook” from U.S. Ambassador Graham.

The film depicts Kato’s attempts to find the notebook along with a mysterious woman named Rin. Meanwhile, D Kikan gets caught up in a fierce rivalry with a radical faction of the Imperial Japanese Army.

Due to the international nature of the films theme, it will be shot in a wide array of locations including three separate areas of Japan, a large open-air set on the island of Batam, Indonesia, and Singapore.

Filming of Joker Game began on January 4. A release is planned for sometime in 2015.

I'm excited about this! The plot sounds interesting and I'm happy that Kame gets to star in another movie =) also glad that Iseya Yusuke is on-board too, he's such a talented actor! =) But I'm not too thrilled about Fukada Kyoko playing the female lead...I think either Ueto Aya or Toda Erika would've been a better choice, or even Kitagawa Keiko...oh well...

Testimony by ex-Indonesian comfort woman: 'I was taken to a Japanese army tent'

$
0
0

More than 70 years after the Japanese occupation of Indonesia began, victims of the Imperial Japanese Army are telling their stories of being forced to serve as "comfort women" and being sexually assaulted by Japanese troops.

Asahi Shimbun reporters visited Indonesia and met many women who were cast aside by their families and have never told of the circumstances of the harm inflicted on them or had their stories investigated.

A support group for former comfort women, who were forced to provide sex for Japanese soldiers during World War II, is located on the island of Sulawesi, Indonesia, which sits just below the equator. Asahi Shimbun reporters asked the group to introduce them to people who had not previously been interviewed. An Asahi Shimbun investigative team spent about two weeks in Sulawesi, where it met 20 or so people who claimed to be former comfort women or witnesses.

The first was Bacce, who lives in Sinjai Regency, an administrative division on the southwest part of the island. At a stilt house built decades ago, Bacce, in her mid-80s, wore a sarong, cloth around her waist, and was hunched back. She is not married and lives with the family of her relatives.

"Did Japanese soldiers do anything frightening to you at that time?" she was asked.

She murmured as she started to speak.

"I was in my mid-teens then. One hot evening when I was cooking at home, two men came and pulled me outside against my will."

The words the men spoke were not Indonesian, and they held guns. Seeing this, Bacce says she figured they were Japanese soldiers. Tears welled up in her eyes 10 minutes or so into the interview.

Bacce was pushed onto the bed of a truck before her father's eyes as he screamed, "Don't take my daughter away!" Bacce says there were other girls around the same age riding with her.

The place they arrived at "had Japanese army tents set up." Bacce was taken inside one, where she said she was raped by several men.

The Asahi Shimbun talked to an Indonesian man named Hamzah, who had gone in and out of that location.

"The Japanese army set up three tents and kept seven women inside," he said. "I saw her (Bacce) there. Japanese troops who controlled the area had taken her."

Hamzah said at that time the community was fearful of Japanese soldiers turning young women into comfort women.

Bacce was released after about three months, but her family chased her off, saying they "do not need a defiled human." After walking barefoot for two full days, Bacce says she survived while helping to work the fields in a village where an acquaintance lived.

"I'm angry at the Indonesian government," she says. "They haven't done anything for me." When the interview was over, her flushed face was a mess of tears.

A BIG BUILDING, MANY SMALL ROOMS

The Asahi Shimbun's investigative team sought out the site where the women say they were assaulted.

Ipatimang, who lives in Pinrang Regency, also in the island's southwest, gave a detailed account. During the occupation, a man holding a pistol grabbed her by the arm inside the yarn-making factory where she was working. His face did not look Indonesian; she thought he was a Japanese soldier.

Ipatimang says they rode in a truck for about 15 minutes, and she was taken to the Malimpung area.

"I was put inside a big wooden building. There were many small rooms along each side of the hallway." Inside, Ipatimang says Japanese soldiers came in one after another to rape her.

"I wailed loudly. I was scared, and I couldn't stop crying." She said that soon after her release three months later, the war ended.

Asahi Shimbun reporters went to Malimpung, about 10 km from Ipatimang's home. A man who has lived nearby for a long time led the reporters to a broad pasture and said, "A long time ago, there were a lot of Japanese troops here. It was a big base."

There were no traces of buildings remaining, but his testimony supported the story that the Japanese army had been there.

Ipatimang remembers clearly the Japanese company that ran the factory where she had worked. It is still a big enterprise today.

Relying on her testimony, the reporters headed for a corner of a residential district in Pinrang Regency, where the factory had apparently stood. Today it is all private homes, with no signs of a factory once being located there. There, the reporters met Ikalau, a women who lives near there.

Even though no mention of the factory was made to Ikalau, she mentioned the name of the same Japanese company in Ipatimang's account. "There was a factory here when the Japanese army was around," she said. Ikalau added, "My mother told me, 'Don't go near the factory. They'll make you a Japanese man's wife.' Everyone was afraid."

RECORDS OF 'OVER 300 PEOPLE NATIONWIDE'

In accordance with a bilateral peace treaty with Indonesia that took effect in 1958, Japan made reparations of approximately $220 million and, as part of an effort to heal the wounds of war, provided economic assistance and other support worth approximately $180 million.

The Asian Women's Fund, a project to atone for the comfort women issue established in 1995 and led by the Japanese government, also provided support with 370 million yen of atonement money.

The Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs set the funds aside for repairs and construction of 69 nursing homes.

According to the Asian Women's Fund's records, there were 21 comfort stations in Sulawesi and just under 40, perhaps more, throughout Indonesia, where there were more than 300 comfort women.

While an investigative report found there were comfort women in Indonesia who were from China, Korea and Taiwan, the fund pointed out that many were recruited in local communities.

It also said that "certain units acted on their own to recruit women and had private comfort stations for their exclusive use" that were separate from the army-run comfort stations.

On-the-ground research conducted by the Japan Federation of Bar Associations (JFBA) in 1993 received testimony from eight women who said they were "turned into comfort women."

The JFBA report concluded, "Comfort stations were set up throughout the country and young women were forced to have sex."

The Asahi Shimbun has obtained thousands of diplomatic papers from the 1990s pertaining to the comfort women issue through the information disclosure law.

Combining these with accounts given by senior government officials and other sources involved at the time, the paper ran a detailed story in its Oct. 13 morning edition on a behind-the-scenes Japanese diplomatic effort to prevent the comfort women issue from becoming an even bigger controversy.

The article told of how Tokyo feared at the time that the comfort women, which had become a major issue in South Korea, could have a ripple effect in other countries, and that the government responded by trying to avoid conducting interviews in Southeast Asia.

(This article was written by Tamiyuki Kihara and Hiroyoshi Itabashi.)

Abe wants to explain Yasukuni visit to China, S Korea

TOKYO —

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said Monday that he wants to explain to leaders in China and South Korea about his visits to Yasukuni shrine in Tokyo, which honors the country’s war dead, but Beijing again called on him to correct his views on Japan’s role in World War II.

Abe said that Japan has not made any direct overtures, but he hopes the leaders can meet to help resolve antagonism over territorial disputes and historical issues.

“At the moment, there is no plan for a summit meeting, but since there are some difficulties and issues we should be speaking together without setting any preconditions,” he told reporters after making a new year’s visit to the Grand Shrine of Ise, in western Japan.

“I would really like to explain the intent of my visits to the Yasukuni Shrine directly to them,” Abe said. “We are not making any direct approach on this, but the door to dialogue is open. I would like to hold Japan-China and Japan-South Korea summit meetings.”

Japan colonized Korea and occupied parts of China before and during World War II and that often brutal legacy taints relations with its neighbors decades later. China and South Korea reacted angrily to Abe’s Dec. 26 visit to the Yasukuni Shrine in Tokyo, where 14 class A war criminals are enshrined among the 2.5 million war dead.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry has said earlier Abe won’t be welcome in Beijing until he admits his mistake.

On Monday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said that to improve relations with Beijing, Abe “needs to correctly view and deeply reflect on the Japan’s militarist history of external invasion and colonialism, show sincerity and make concrete efforts to improve ties with neighboring countries.”

“Judging from his moves, Prime Minister Abe is hypocritical when he pays lip-service to improving relations with China. It is he himself who closed the door to dialogue with China,” she said in a daily briefing.

Abe has said Japan should never wage war again, though he favors strengthening the military and revising the country’s pacifist constitution. That agenda is popular with some Japanese, though polls show the majority are more concerned about the economy.

“I am confident that we can gain understanding ... if we firmly explain the Abe administration’s pro-active pacifism,” he said.

After a year in office, Abe said he was confident that the economy was in a stable recovery and he exhorted the public to persevere in overcoming hardships. He vowed to cushion the economy from any adverse impact due to a sales tax increase due to take effect April 1.

“We are at the point where we may escape from 15 years of deflation and we must not let it slip away,” said Abe, who is urging companies to raise wages to help offset the inflation resulting from ultra-loose monetary policies intended to rev up growth.

“I want a fresh start with a fighting spirit and sense of urgency,” he said.
