Visual kei air band, Golden Bomber, have topped the albums chart for the first time with "The Past Masters vol. 1" since debuting in May 2008. Their previous best placing in the chart was 2nd. Also this year, they have managed to rank 1st in the singles chart for the first time with "Dance My Generation." The last time an artist from an indies label has topped the Oricon chart was MONGOL800 with album "MESSAGE" (September 2001) and single "Yorokobi no Uta" (December 2003), making Golden Bomber only the 2nd artist to do so. The album includes their 1st no.1 single, "Dance My Generation" as well as songs like "Nakanaide", "ICE BOX", House Foods CM song "Nemutakute", and new song "Setsunai Hodo", for a total of 16 songs.
In the singles chart, popular group, Kanjani8 have achieved their 10th consecutive no.1 single (and 18th no.1 single overall) with their 1st single this year, "Hesomagari / Koko ni shikanai keshiki." The single has also far surpassed their previous single, "Aoppana" (September last year) which sold 208k in the first week. They reach this milestone for the first time 8 years and 8 months since debut. The A-side track, "Hesomagari" is the the theme song for the TV Asahi drama, "Otenki Oneesan" starring member, Ohkura Tadayoshi, while the other A-side track, "Koko ni shikanai keshiki" is the theme song for the movie, "Kenchou Omotenashika" starring member, Nishikido Ryo, which will be out in theatres on May 11th.
Meanwhile, popular group, Arashi have reached the top spot in both music-DVD and overall DVD charts simultaneously with their live DVD, "ARASHI LIVE TOUR Popcorn." This is their 9th consecutive no.1 DVD (their 11th overall) since "SUMMER TOUR 2007 FINAL Time ~Kotoba no Chikara~" (April 2008), also the first time for an artist to achieve no.1 in both charts 9 times in a row in Oricon history. Including the successive no.1 music-DVD of the year with "ARASHI ARAFES" (December last year, 624k first week), the group also have the record at of DVD total sales at 1st place with "5x10 All the BEST! CLIPS 1999-2009" (October 2009, 893k), as well as the artist with the highest-selling number of DVDs with 7.229 million copies. Footage for the DVD was filmed at Tokyo Dome in December, which was during their 5-Dome tour beginning from November last year until January this year.
