AKB48's latest single, "Sayonara Crawl", has sold 1,730,610 copies in its first week of release, setting not only group records, but overall records as well.
On its first day on sale, the single sold 1,450,881 copies, becoming the group's best-selling single in terms of first day sales, beating their 2012 Senbatsu single "Manatsu no Sounds Good!". The single now beats their 2012 hit as the group's best-selling single in terms of first week sales.
"Sayonara Crawl" is AKB48's 2nd best selling single to date. With only few singles needed to beat "Manatsu no Sounds Good!" which was sold with a total of 1,820,056 copies putting it in the 3rd place for the best single sold by a female group taking Morning Musume's Love Machine Position; the single is expected to become the group's best selling single ever in the upcoming week and hopefully to take Speed's White love record as the most single sold by a female group.
With their new single, AKB48 has set a new record for most singles sold by a female artist with 21,852,000 singles sold taking Ayumi Hamasaki throne who previously held this record with 21,416,000 singles sold. The singer had held onto this record since February of 2006 breaking her 7-year record.
